Verifying Upwork, Fiverr & Freelance Platforms From Cameroon
Cameroon has a growing freelance economy — writers, developers, designers, VAs earning in dollars for clients abroad. But the platforms that connect you to those clients all share one gatekeeper: phone verification at signup. If your number is already tied to an old account, the platform is being picky about your region, or you want a clean professional identity, a temporary number clears the step in minutes — and you can pay with the MoMo already on your phone.
Where the friction shows up
- Signup verification — Upwork, Fiverr, Freelancer and similar platforms want an SMS code before the account activates.
- Profile verification — some platforms phone-check again before first withdrawal or to unlock tiers.
- A fresh professional identity — a new account cleanly separated from an old personal one.
- Region filters — some platforms verify more strictly from certain countries, or don't accept +237 numbers on a given day.
The clean path
- Top up on Micro OTP — MTN MoMo or Orange Money, from about 600 FCFA. Approve the prompt on your phone and your balance loads instantly.
- Pick the platform from the service grid — or a generic verification route if yours isn't listed.
- Choose the number's country. For freelance platforms, a number matching the region you present to clients often reads more naturally — but "Best available" picks whichever route is delivering strongest.
- Enter the number, request the code, read it on your order page, done.
The rules that protect your income
A freelance account holds your portfolio, ratings, and pending earnings — treat it accordingly:
- Anchor it to email + 2FA immediately. The temporary number expires in minutes; your account needs recovery that outlives it.
- Payouts are separate. Payoneer, bank, and wallet details verify independently — set them up properly so no lost number holds your earnings.
- Don't use numbers to dodge a ban. Platforms fingerprint devices, IDs, and payout details — a new number alone won't hide you, and getting caught ends the account permanently. Temporary numbers are for legitimate new accounts, not evasion.
- One verification, one job done. The number's purpose is the signup SMS; after that, normal account security takes over.
If the code doesn't arrive
Different platforms filter different number routes — if the first attempt stalls, cancel (it refunds automatically) and try a different number or country. Our troubleshooting guide covers every failure mode.
Cost
Under a dollar per verification — the price shows in FCFA before you pay, and the MoMo top-up that funds it takes seconds on the phone already in your hand. Small cost against what a verified freelance account earns.
